6DOF Nonlinear Flight Dynamics and Simulation of a Twin Tail Tilt Duct UAV
This thesis looks at the stability and control of a 2500lb tilt duct UAV using classical flight dynamics methodologies. Two weeks of static and dynamic data were collected at the Glenn L. Martin Wind Tunnel, which validated computational fluid dynamic (CFD) models and created a nonlinear aerodynamic database. Dynamic parameter estimation was performed using the NASA code: System Identification Programs for AirCraft (SIDPAC). A six degree of freedom (6-DOF) simulation was then created in the Simulink environment to allow for the integration of digital flight control and stability augmentation.
